In the 12th century, Miranda had a medieval bridge that connected Aquende and Allende and that was destroyed by a flood in 1775. The seriousness of the situation forced it to be replaced as quickly as possible by another, designed by Francisco Alejo de Aranguren. Two years later, both banks were united again.
